Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport - TYS
Car Rental
For passengers who want the convenience of traveling at their own pace, rental cars offer a wide range of vehicle sizes, daily and weekly rates, and the option to drop the car off at another location. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty are all located within the airport on the lower level. Quite frequently this turns out to be the most affordable means of transportation and there is no baggage limit involved.
Public/Ground Transfer
At the present time, the airport is not on any public bus or train routes. There are plans to change this in the near future adding both bus and train service, but for now passengers must either take a taxi, hire a limo, or rent a car.
Airport Shuttles
The airport does not offer any shuttles. Due to its size, passengers will find that taxi, limousine, or rental cars are generally the best options for reaching downtown Knoxville or other locations.
Maxwell Coach Company is a private company that has van rentals that can pick up passengers at the airport. This option is best for large groups. It is expensive, and there are hefty fines of up to $250 that are charged for any trash or mess left behind in the van. Therefore, it is advisable for passengers to use the service with that in mind.
Limousine Services
An excellent variety of companies offer limousine service to and from the airport. Companies that often make runs from the airport and into the city include Ambassador Limo Service, Chariots of Hire, Great Impressions, L'Espace Motorcoach, Lonestar Limousine, Sweethearts Limo, and Twin Lakes Limo. Limousine service is often the most comfortable due to the vehicle's spaciousness and it does prevent the need for unnecessary stops that one would find when using public transportation. Reservations must be made in advance, and most companies require their limousines to be rented in three hour blocks.
Taxi Services
Five taxi services make frequent runs to and from Knoxville McGhee Tyson Airport and are often parked waiting for passengers on the street. AAA Taxi, ABC Taxi, Benchmark Taxi, Sunshine Taxi, and Tennessee Taxi Service usually require less than a five minute wait at the curbside once called, if they are not already there waiting on incoming arrivals. On average, a one-way trip for one person from the airport to downtown Knoxville costs a flat rate $25. This includes one bag per person. Extra bags are an additional $5 per and extra passengers cost $2 each. Taxi service generally is more expensive, but taxis are direct and can take passengers anywhere they need to go. Those not heading into Knoxville should expect to pay $2 per mile plus a $2 pick-up fee, $2 per extra passenger, and $5 per extra bag.
