In the center of the main historic district sets this Bed and Breakfast on quiet tree lined street that was one of Philadelphia's first HISTORIC DISTRICTS with period street lamps appropriate to 1830's. We are 6 blocks to Independence Hall/Liberty Bell; 7 blocks to Pennsylvania Convention Center; 2 blocks to Jefferson, Wills Eye and one to Pennsylvania Hospitals; one block from Philadelphia's Historic Antique Row and the Trolley Tour stop. We are but a short cab or bus ride to Univ. of Penn/Drexel campuses, Children's Hospital at Penn(CHUP) and Univ of Penn Hospital Home was built in 1854-56 as a Federal townhouse; the floorplan was expanded and reworked in 1878 to include a grand staircase crowned by a leaded glass skylight. Formal space on the first floor is used by guests as a palour and dinning room. All the rooms are centered around the grand staircase, which is open as a small atrium through four floors and is flooded with natural light. Most rooms have decorative fireplaces and are furnished with antique furniture and assessories/original art works. Home is non-smoking, with central heating and air conditioning. Some rooms have an additional window A/C with remote controls. Restored and refurnished in 1998-2000. Each room is designed/decorated to a theme revolving around Philadelphia's history. Rooms with Twin,Double,Queen and King-sized beds are appointed with all-cotton sheets and towels. Rooms have private and shared baths, which are vintage and modern/ with shower or tub/shower. Rates range from $85 to $160 based on single or double occupancy. A cot can added to some rooms upon approval and availability. Continental breakfast provided. Allergy and diet restrictions honored with 24 hr notice.
