Entry Requirements
Nationals of the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand require a passport and a visa to enter Egypt, and they can obtain it from an Egyptian consulate abroad or at any point of entry excluding Taba and Rafah. At the airport, visa fees are payable in US dollars. For US citizens, a single-entry 30-day tourist visa will cost $15, for Canadians $50, for Britons $80 and citizens of most other countries will be charged $20.
To minimize potential hassles at the airport, it's recommended that you obtain a visa at an Egyptian consulate in your country before departure. Consulates are usually able to process visas in a week or less, but documentation requirements vary so get your paperwork squared away as early possible.

Customs
Local authorities are strict about the import and export of a wide range of items, including firearms, religious materials, antiques, medicine, electronic equipment, currency, and ivory. Be sure to contact an Egyptian embassy or consulate for details.
While the government has the right to charge duties on photographic equipment, it only does so when it's a large quantity. But be prepared to deal with some bureaucracy on arrival.
Belongings intended for personal use, such as jewelry, laptops and electronics can be brought in duty-free, but the authorities may levy a tax on computer accessories including printers and modems. Be prepared to have the electronics you are bringing in marked on your passport, and presented on your departure.
There are no restrictions on the import or export of foreign currency, but you can't bring in or take out more than 5,000 Egyptian pounds (LE) of local currency.
